Clinical overview

About erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition affecting men of all ages, characterised by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. While occasional difficulty is normal, persistent ED can impact quality of life and may be an early indicator of underlying cardiovascular or metabolic issues.

The primary medical treatments for ED are PDE5 inhibitors, which work by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing for increased blood flow when sexually aroused. These medications do not cause an automatic erection; sexual stimulation is still required.

Our pharmacists review each case to ensure the chosen treatment is safe alongside any existing medications or health conditions, particularly blood pressure issues or heart disease.

Comparing your options

  • Sildenafil (Generic Viagra)

The most established treatment. Typically takes 30–60 minutes to work and remains effective for about 4 hours. Best taken on an empty stomach.

  • Tadalafil (Generic Cialis)

Often called the "weekend pill". Takes 30–60 minutes to work but can remain effective for up to 36 hours, allowing for more spontaneity. Can be taken with or without food.

  • Vardenafil (Levitra)

Similar to Sildenafil but may be preferred by men who experience side effects with other PDE5 inhibitors. Effective for about 4–5 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a prior prescription from my GP?
No. Our online consultation acts as your clinical assessment. If approved, our prescriber issues the prescription directly to our pharmacy team for dispensing.
Is the packaging discreet?
Yes. All orders are dispatched in plain, unbranded packaging with no indication of the contents or the pharmacy name on the exterior.
What are the common side effects?
Common side effects of PDE5 inhibitors include headaches, facial flushing, indigestion, and a slightly stuffy nose. These are usually mild and pass as the medication leaves your system.
Can I take ED medication with alcohol?
While a small amount of alcohol (e.g., one or two units) is generally fine, excessive alcohol consumption can make it harder to get an erection and may increase the risk of side effects like dizziness or a drop in blood pressure.
